Safety Rules

Know where exits, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are located.

Do not touch/handle/use any tools, machines, or equipment without authorization, proper training, and appropriate supervision.

Do not work in the shop, operate any power equipment, or work on the robot without another person within 25 feet and at least one adult for every 10 students.

Do not leave machinery running unattended.

Always use the proper tool for the job.

Only use tools that are in good condition.
-
No horseplay, running, throwing things, screaming, shoving.

Do not distract or startle anyone who is working with hand tools, power tools, or machinery.

Wear closed toed shoes in the cage, competition pit, or whenever working on the robot.

Wear safety glasses (with side shields) in the cage, competition pit, or whenever working on the robot.

Wear specialized gloves for cutting and for handling chemicals.
-
Wear earplugs when needed for high-noise tasks.
-
When using machines or power tools or working on the robot, tie back long hair, and do not wear loose clothing or any jewelry except small earrings (less than 3/4").

Disconnect the electric power source before working on the robot.

Release any stored energy source (compressed air, spring, etc.) before working on the robot.

Do not use damaged batteries, and do not handle them without proper training.

Do not use damaged electrical cords or equipment with damaged cords.

Do not overload electrical fixtures and receptacles.

Follow label instructions for use of chemicals, and keep chemical containers in a safe location in good condition with labels intact and legible.

If you have safety questions or concerns, consult the Safety Captain or a mentor.

You must attend safety training every year.
